Many fans expected the latest Dragon Ball game to be successful given its continuous popularity. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero sold three million copies in its first 24 hours, with fans expecting a new Budokai Tenkaichi game flocking to see their favorite characters fight again. Sparking Zero launches with 180 characters and promises to add more through DLC packs, keeping players engaged well into the new year. Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft report that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is the fastest-selling Dragon Ball console game ever with over five million sales. Sparking Zero became the fourth best-selling game of 2024 and the third best-selling Bandai Namco game of all time in November 2024, behind Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring. Although player counts have dropped since its triumphant launch, the game still has a loyal core group, and future upgrades may bring back some followers.
Over 5 million Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero copies sold worldwide
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s January 2025 update added the limited-time Legendary Warrior Face-Off feature and tweaked Episode Battle, Custom Battle, Ranked Match, and more. In early 2025, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s “Hero of Justice” DLC added three custom bouts and 11 additional characters, including Ultimate Gohan, Giant Piccolo, Cell Max, and Gamma 1 and 2.
The second set of DLC material has no release date, however Sparking Zero will introduce Dragon Ball Daima characters in early 2025. Vegeta (Mini) and Glorio from the new Dragon Ball anime will join the game in the coming months, along with a third DLC round later in the year. The new Demon Realm King Gomah turns Goku and company into children in Dragon Ball Daima, which broadcast globally on October 11.
